Sutcliffe Meteor 2

Final steps...

So now that the repairs are complete, it's time to paint. Most of our restorations involve producing a smooth and glossy 'factory fresh' paint finish, but that would look very odd on this boat, so we've had to produce a 'patinated' finish so the repaired items, particulary the new vent, 'blend in'...

This effect is achieved by painting the vent with a gloss matched as closely as possible with the original. When this is completely dry, the finish is then gently flatted off with very fine wire wool, and then a 'dry brush' technique is used to add the 'rust'.

Below, the finished boat, before and after. More of a 'spot the difference' than a 'transformation' but the boat is now complete and ready to set sail!

'Ranger' before her visit to the boatyard...

.... And afterwards.... A good clean up all round and a few 'bits and bobs' sorted out. Good for another 50 years...
